The Departed

Scorsese began his career with B movies before launching both his and Robert De Niro's careers with 1973's Mean Streets. De Niro and Scorsese worked together again in 1976, on the controversial drama Taxi Driver, and then again in 1980 on Raging Bull, which won the actor an Oscar and Scorsese his first Oscar nomination. Martin Scorsese is the most renowned filmmaker of his era. He defined the state of modern American cinema during the 1970s and '80s. A consummate storyteller and visual stylist who lived and breathed movies, he won fame translating his passion and energy into a brand of filmmaking that crackled with kinetic excitement. He won plenty of awards like for example in 2005 he was nominated for best director in the movie The Aviator and recently award on his hit movie The departed for best director in this motion picture. This is the movie I will talk to you about. First of all I will make a brief summary of this movie. Then I will describe the music used in this action movie and finally describe to you the main actors that take place in this motion picture.

Years ago, a powerful Irish mafia figure placed a small selection of his youngest, brightest men into the Massachusetts Police Academy as cadets. Their purpose is to eventually rise within the prestigious ranks of the city's police department, to serve as the eyes and ears of their boss. While somewhere else, a young cadet was assigned with an equally dangerous task: infiltrate the Irish syndicate headed by the man sending in his own to the Boston Police. Now, one cadet is an up and coming police official with a torn allegiance to his job and to the criminal mastermind that put him there. While the other cadet is the trusted number two of that man, only finding his professional duties are becoming blurred with his current state. But new clues have lead to unfortunate discoveries, when both sides realize they're being watched by the enemy. It's now all just a matter of time before the men assigned to find out who’s the infiltrator, could come to a bloody end when someone's identity may be revealed.

The main characters in this movie were really interesting, the role they had to do really came natural whit these famous celebrities. When I say «famous celebrities» I’m talking about Jack Nicholson who plays the Irish Mobster boss. Every film that he played in make’s it incredible. He has this way of being natural on the stage and to really get in the skin of his characters. When I’m talking about the characters I am also talking about Leonardo Dicaprio (undercover in the Irish mobster) and Matt Damon (undercover cop working for the Irish mobster boss) who played very well the role of being both undercover. You can really see that the actors worked hard to make this movie one of the best action movies of this era.

Enough whit the characters, lets talk about the music. It is rare that in an action movie you will hear nice music like the Beach Boys or the Rolling Stone. You will often hear drama music to keep the suspense on and on till the end of the movie. The fact that they put lovely music like that in an action movie makes it special. It comes inside you and takes you in a different world because it’s the kind of music that you would listen at home. So I think that the song used on the scenes in the movie The Departed was a really good choice.

To conclude, I likes this movie allot. Everything was just «WOW», the characters were good, the story had sense and the music was perfect and not to forget the filming whit all these different angles. The thing I disliked in this movie was probably the fact that everybody dies at the end whit a ball in the head. The end of the movies really took me by surprise because you are used to look at action movies and to know that the main characters will stay alive and will be the hero at bottom line. But in this movie you have tree main characters and the directors need to make a surprising ending and I think this is why this movie won an Oscar, because of its structure, the choices of the characters, the filming, the graphics and the music.
